Blue Front Door
Remember a long time ago when I painted these flower pots? Well that was June. I painted the front door that same day and never got around to taking pictures.
We painted our first house's front door yellow. This time we picked blue!
It's pretty bright up close, but not as bright as the above picture looks. From the street and behind the storm door, it's not as strong.
All the daisies died, but the red begonias still look great!
I really hate the shape of our door, and I thought a coat of paint might make me hate it less. Maybe my dislike has decreased to a "somewhat dislike." We kept the inside of the door white, because I didn't want all blue all the time. The more I live with the color, the more I wish I had spent more time finding something slightly ... better?

Dipped Flower Pot Tutorial (Without Dipping)
We're having a long, cool spring in Indiana. It's front porch weather, and I've been drinking a lot of sun tea and brainstorming ways to make our front porch prettier.
I was inspired by this bowl from Target:
As well as this project over at EmilyAClark.com:
For this project I needed: pots (mine were plastic), potting soil and flowers, paint, and masking tape/newspaper.
First, tape off your pots to get a nice clean line so they look dipped.
Spray as directed. I used a Valspar interior spray paint, and finished it off with an exterior clear coat.
Peel off the tape and paper, and let the paint cure before you do any potting. Drill a hole in the bottom of your pot if there isn't one already.
Plant!
And show them off.
I took these pictures as a rainstorm was rolling in; they're a little shinier in real life, sort of like the kick plate on that storm door that I hate.
I also painted the front door this weekend! Still waiting for the paint to cure and then I'll put up pictures.

Curb Appeal: Building a Landscaping Wall
We've been busy! Indiana had some beautiful spring weather last weekend, so we finally got outside and made some satisfying progress with the landscaping in front of our house.
To review, here's where we started:
Prominent features include plastic edging, plastic drainage hoses, and predictable plants.
After some dreaming and some trenching to bury gutters, we bought some landscaping rock from Menard's and got busy. Jon probably wants me to leave out the Menard's part, but they were having a paver sale and it was perfect timing.
The color of the block ties in nicely with the color of the stone on the front of our house. Jon did all the work: I just handed him blocks.
The best part is, all the plants we used were scattered around the yard already! We just dug them up and organized them.
The plants in this last pictures got dug up and spread out, and I bought a few plants online to fill in with some color. They ended up being really cheap and reallllly small. Here's hoping that next year things fill out!
